Quinton Dunbar, the No. 2-rated cornerback for the 2019 NFL season according to Pro Football Focus, is coming to the Seahawks from Washington for a fifth-round draft pick. The news was reported Monday and the deal was made official Tuesday.

The pick, which is the 162nd overall selection for the draft in April, was acquired by Seattle when it traded tight end Nick Vannett to Pittsburgh during the 2019 season.

Dunbar, 27, has nine career interceptions in five years as a pro, all with Washington. He had a career-high four picks in 11 games in 2019 along with eight passes defensed, 37 combined tackles and a tackle for loss. On Sept. 29, 2019, he picked off a pair of passes against the Giants for his first career multi-interception game.

The 6-foot-2, 202-pound Dunbar in a Florida native and played in college for the Florida Gators. Much like former Seahawks standout cornerback Richard Sherman, Dunbar was a wide receiver in college. Unlike Sherman, however, Dunbar didn’t convert to cornerback until after his college career, and in fact went undrafted. He was signed to a three-year contract shortly after the 2015 NFL Draft by Washington.

Dunbar bcomese the second addition made to the Seahawks’ defense since free agency started last week following pass-rusher Bruce Irvin.

According to ESPN NFL insider Field Yates, Dunbar fits what the Seahawks look for in their secondary.

“Good on-ball skills and production,” Yates stated in a tweet. “… He fits what Seattle seeks from an athletic profile at 6-1 with 4.44 speed.”

Yates added that Dunbar is entering his last season under contract with a $3.25 million salary.

Jake Heaps, former Seahawks quarterback and current co-host of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Tom, Jake and Stacy, called Dunbar “one of the best CBs last season” and praised Schneider for the move.
