Here are the position-by-position snap counts from the Seahawks’ loss to St. Louis and a few notes:

OFFENSE (72 total)

Running backs

Fred Jackson: 35 (49%)
Christine Michael: 22 (31%)
Will Tukuafu: 15 (21%)
Bryce Brown: 11 (15%)
Derrick Coleman: 1 (1%)

Coach Pete Carroll said the running-back workload would be determined based on how the game played out as opposed to any predetermination. The reason why Jackson ended up playing more snaps than Michael and Brown combined was partly because Seattle was in hurry-up mode at the end of the first half and for much of the fourth quarter. Jackson is the running back in that situation.

Tight ends

Cooper Helfet: 52 (72%)
Luke Willson: 18 (25%)

Willson started the game but left in the second quarter and didn’t return due to a concussion. With Chase Coffman inactive, Helfet was Seattle’s only available tight end after Willson went down.

Wide receiver

Doug Baldwin: 60 (83%)
Jermaine Kearse: 53 (74%)
Tyler Lockett: 50 (69%)
Kevin Smith: 28 (39%)
Kasen Williams: 10 (14%)

Lockett left briefly in the first half to be evaluated for a concussion, returning once he was cleared. Williams, promoted from the practice squad over the weekend, made his NFL debut.

Offensive linemen

J.R. Sweezy: 72 (100%)
Alvin Bailey: 72 (100%)
Justin Britt: 72 (100%)
Garry Gilliam: 72 (100%)
Patrick Lewis: 72 (100%)
Lemuel Jeanpierre: 5 (7%)

Jeanpierre was used as an extra blocker, likely because Seattle was short-handed at tight end.

Note: Quarterback Russell Wilson played all 72 of Seattle’s offensive snaps.

DEFENSE (53 total)

Defensive backs

Kelcie McCray: 53 (100%)
Richard Sherman: 53 (100%)
Earl Thomas: 53 (100%)
Jeremy Lane: 46 (87%)
DeShawn Shead: 32 (60%)

Lane and Shead split time at right cornerback. Lane played there when the Seahawks were in their base defense and slid inside to the slot when they went to nickel, with Shead replacing him on the outside.

Linebackers

Bobby Wagner: 53 (100%)
K.J. Wright: 53 (100%)
Bruce Irvin: 35 (66%)
Mike Morgan: 4 (8%)

Wagner and Wright typically don’t leave the field.

Defensive linemen

Michael Bennett: 49 (92%)
Cliff Avril: 46 (87%)
Brandon Mebane: 42 (79%)
Ahtyba Rubin: 40 (75%)
Frank Clark: 11 (21%)
Cassius Marsh: 7 (13%)
Demarcus Dobbs: 6 (11%)

The amount that Mebane and Rubin played was again indicative of the way the game unfolded. They have played less in recent weeks as Seattle has taken big leads and forced opponents to abandon the run in order to catch up. But on Sunday, the Rams played from ahead the entire game and finished with 30 rushes to 23 pass attempts, which kept Mebane and Rubin on the field more than they have been of late.
