Pro Bowl rosters were unveiled Tuesday night, and just two Seahawks – quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker Bobby Wagner – made the roster.

O’Neil: Inexplicable Seahawks trend continues with Pro Bowl snubs

For context’s sake, the Baltimore Ravens (who are 11-3 like Seattle) have 12, the San Francisco 49ers (who the Seahawks lead in the NFC West) have four, and teams like the 3-11 Washington Redskins, 5-9 Los Angeles Chargers, 6-8 Cleveland Browns and 4-9-1 Arizona Cardinals have two – just like Seattle.

Seven other Seahawks were named Pro Bowl alternates, meaning if another player at their position can’t play in the game, they would have a chance at taking their roster spot. Were any of them snubbed from the Pro Bowl roster?

The seven alternates are offensive tackle Duane Brown, receiver Tyler Lockett, running back Chris Carson, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, safety Quandre Diggs, cornerback Shaquill Griffin and offensive guard Mike Iupati. Danny O’Neil of 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny and Gallant said Brown should be on the roster given his play and his 12-year veteran status.

“If guys are going to make it on reputation, don’t you make it on offensive line?” O’Neil said.

Former NFL wide receiver Michael Bumpus said he understands the frustration some may be feeling with the Seahawks having just two Pro Bowlers while holding the NFC’s No. 1 seed, but that the frustration may not exactly be warranted.

“(Being) 11-3, your initial thought is to say yes, they are underrepresented. And then I think OK, so who should we put in?” Bumpus said.

Bumpus said the one Seahawk he could see making a case for would be Carson.

“Naturally I go to Carson and I look at the list for running backs and the only person I would take out is (Minnesota Vikings running back) Dalvin Cook, but then you look at his touchdowns,” Bumpus said. “(Cook) has 13 (rushing) touchdowns and Carson has seven. Carson does have more yards than he does, but I think they look at the overall production, so I’m kind of OK with this.”

Bumpus said he also considered someone on the offensive line, like Brown, should be in the Pro Bowl because of Seattle’s potent rushing attack, but there’s a reason why he’s not as upset with that slight.

“It’s hard (to reward someone) when your quarterback has been sacked like 100 times this year,” Bumpus said. “I think (the Seahawks are) underappreciated, but unfortunately I think they got the Pro Bowl list right.”

Another player who is having a great year is Griffin, who has emerged as a true No. 1 cornerback in the NFL. One thing Bumpus said that hurt his is his interceptions, or really, lack thereof. Griffin has zero this season.

“He’s locking down a side of the field and his last game wasn’t his greatest, but he has a lot of pass defenses. But again they look at overall production and he just doesn’t have enough picks,” Bumpus said.
