Mariners second baseman Robinson Cano isn’t quite sure what to expect when he returns to Yankee Stadium
for the first time as a visitor.

One thing’s for sure, though: he’ll be booed by at least a portion – if not the majority – of the fan base that is sour over the way he left New York for a 10-year, $240 million contract in Seattle over the offseason.

On Monday, a day before the Mariners and Yankees open a three-game series, Cano had some fun with all the indignation when he appeared on “The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon” and took part in a skit in which he surprised unsuspecting Yankees fans who thought they were booing a giant cardboard sign with the second baseman’s image.

Check it out in the video atop the post.

During an interview with Fallon – which is embedded below – Cano showed deference toward the fans for the support they showed him during his nine seasons in New York.

“I would say the way I left New York, I left it in a good way,” he said. “I won a World Series in ’09, and hopefully (I) get a good standing ovation, but if it’s not I’m going to have fun and I’m still going to have some love for the New York fans for all those years that I was here. They were so patient and were so kind to me, and I really want to thank them for that.”
