Here’s a look at what members of the Cleveland Browns had to say to the media after their 30-13 loss to the Seahawks at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.
Recap | Wilson playing like MVP | More TDs for Baldwin | Okung injured | Photos
Head coach Mike Pettine on Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s third-down proficiency: “Yeah, it starts with the quarterback. The ones he made with his feet, he was able to scramble. He is a hard guy to pressure because he has that ability to make the first guy miss and make you really pay.”
Quarterback Johnny Manziel on Seattle’s pass rush: “That pass rush is relentless. Everyone gets stronger as the game goes on. That’s a good defense – I think everyone in the league knows that – and we did some good things, but we didn’t do enough of them.”
Manziel on Wilson: “I thought he played really well. He completed 70 percent of his passes, they ran the ball for over 100 yards and they were really good on third down. Seems like every time you would hear ‘Punt team get ready’ on the sideline, you would hear a roar from their fans. They did a good job keeping us on the field. To be successful you have to be really good on third downs, and I think that’s about being clutch at the right time. He didn’t surprise me at all.”
Defensive tackle Danny Shelton, a rookie from Auburn and UW alum, on playing in Seattle: “It’s awesome – seeing my family, seeing the old fans is something I’ve been looking forward to this whole season. I didn’t get the outcome I wanted, but it’s still a good time and I am going to remember this.”
Shelton on the difficulty of playing the Seahawks: “They’ve got elite players – players like Russell Wilson. They have some good blocking up front, and they have some playmakers.”
Defensive end Xavier Cooper, a rookie from Tacoma and WSU alum, on playing in Seattle: “The experience was great. I played here every year of my collegiate career and now in the NFL, it’s just great being back and having my friends and family watching. It’s a good feeling.”
Cooper on Wilson’s ability to move in the pocket: “Russell is the guy. He makes a lot of those guys better players than they are. Russell can extend plays, good on his feet. When you’re playing a quarterback like that you got to get him down. We tried to get him down a couple of times. But ultimately we got to get off the field on third down.”
Linebacker Karlos Dansby on if third downs were the biggest issue for the Browns’ defense: “Probably was. It was a number of things today. We missed a lot of tackles. We didn’t make the plays when we had the opportunities to. We missed on a lot of plays. We had opportunities to break up passes and didn’t break them up. We didn’t make enough plays to win the game. It was close, we just didn’t make enough plays to get over that hump against a great team.”
