It will indeed be Kelcie McCray starting for the Seahawks at strong safety in place of Kam Chancellor today against Cleveland.
Chancellor, not surprisingly, was among the players that Seattle declared inactive. He was listed as questionable due to bruised tailbone, but that status even seemed optimistic considering he didn’t practice at all last week.
Here’s more on McCray, who was acquired in a preseason trade with Kansas City and will make his first career start today.
Christine Michael is active, which was not a certainty as he was re-signed last week, added to a running-back mix that is now in flux with Thomas Rawls lost for the season and Marshawn Lynch still not back from abdominal surgery. Bryce Brown and fullback Derrick Coleman could all see time at tailback today, but the Seahawks gave no indication as to how they would divvy up the workload.
Cornerback DeShawn Shead is active, as expected. He was listed as questionable due to an ankle injury that limited him in practice last week, but coach Pete Carroll said he’ll play. Rookie fifth-round pick Tye Smith is active, which could be related to Shead’s health.
Seattle’s other inactives are Lynch, center/guard Kristjan Sokoli, tight ends Anthony McCoy and Chase Coffman and defensive tackles Jordan Hill and A.J. Francis. McCoy (ankle) and Hill (toe) were ruled out on Friday.
Luke Willson and Cooper Helfet are Seattle’s only active tight ends with Coffman and McCoy out.
Defensive end Demarcus Dobbs is active. He returns after missing the last two games due to a concussion.
