Seahawks injury updates: Marshawn Lynch not expected to practice this week

It will likely be at least another week until Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch returns from abdominal surgery as coach Pete Carroll said it doesn’t appear that he’s ready to resume practicing.
That means Lynch will be back at the earliest in Seattle’s regular-season finale against Arizona.
“It’s just a race against time right now and I know he’s going for it,” Carroll said during his appearance on “Brock and Salk” Monday morning. “That’s what’s important.”
Lynch hasn’t played since Seattle’s loss to Arizona on Nov. 15. He had surgery 10 days later for an issue that was related to a sports hernia. Last week, Carroll said Lynch would continue his rehab “off-site” but declined to specify where that will be.
A report from Jay Glazer of FOX Sports on Sunday stated that Lynch has been training with a mixed martial arts coach named Tareq Azim in San Francisco. According to Glazer, Azim said that in addition to the physical rehab with Lynch’s core, he’s trying to “get the fight back” with Lynch and “working on the mental game” given that Lynch has never gone through as extensive of an injury-related layoff in his career.
Asked about Lynch trying to “get the fight back”, Carroll said: “He hasn’t been in a fight for such a long time. He’s been in and out and it’s been such a distraction for him. I’m sure he’s just trying to get to the top of his game so when he comes back he can help out.”
Carroll shared two other injury updates.
He said the Seahawks got a “pretty good report” on left tackle Russell Okung, which was that “not a lot showed up” upon further examination of the calf strain he sustained Sunday against Cleveland.
“So we’re not quite sure what’s going on there, but obviously he had some discomfort and all that,” Carroll said. “We’ll find out what it means.”
Carroll said strong safety Kam Chancellor is making progress in his recovery from a bruised tailbone, which sidelined him Sunday.
“I talked to Kam this morning. He’s moving a lot better,” Carroll said. “That’s a nasty injury and he’s been really almost immobile for the first week, but he’s really popped out today. He came in early and he’s trying to get back at it.”
