Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny and left tackle Duane Brown have both been dealing with injuries for weeks, but the pair were able to press on to play in Seattle’s Week 5 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Rost: 4 Seahawks to watch in today’s road game against Browns

Well, 10 days later, those same injuries have Penny and Brown on the inactive list against Cleveland in a game where Seattle is expected to rely heavily on the run.

Penny, the Seahawks’ No. 2 running back, is out for Sunday’s 10 a.m. game against the Browns after going into the weekend questionable with a hamstring injury. It’s certainly a shock to see the 2018 first-round draft pick won’t play for the third time this year considering he was a full participant in practice all week, however.

“It’s a long, long season and you have to be careful with hamstrings,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said Sunday morning on the 710 ESPN Seattle pregame show when asked about Penny’s status.

Brown, meanwhile, will miss his first game of the season with a bicep injury that has lingered since he first suffered it in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints. Though Brown played 100% of Seattle’s offensive snaps in their Week 4 and Week 5 games – which were played in a five-day stretch – he was deemed doubtful for the game in Cleveland when the Seahawks announced their final injury report on Friday. Brown sat out practice all week, and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said Brown’s injury was “not responding as well as we had hoped.”

Right guard D.J. Fluker, another lineman who sat out practice during the week and was doubtful for Sunday’s game, is also inactive with a hamstring injury that knocked him out of the Seahawks’ previous contest.

Schneider noted that rookie Jamarco Jones and fourth-year tackle George Fant will fill in for Brown and Fluker against Cleveland.

Defensive end Branden Jackson, who sat out Seattle’s practice Wednesday with a neck injury but was a full participant on Thursday and Friday, is the most notable defensive player on the Seahawks’ inactive list.

Worth noting is that offensive guard Jordan Roos and tight end Jacob Hollister are active after being promoted from the practice squad on Friday.

Here’s the full list of Seattle’s inactive players:

• RB Rashaad Penny
• LT Duane Brown
• RG D.J. Fluker
• DE Branden Jackson
• WR Gary Jennings
• WR John Ursua
• CB Akeem King

And here is who the Browns are holding out for the game:

• WR Taywan Taylor
• WR Damion Ratley
• CB Denzel Ward
• CB Greedy Williams
• DE Genard Avery
• C Austin Corbett
• T Kendall Lamm
