The UW Huskies are out of the Associated Press Top 25 college football poll for only the second time since 2015, and it’s the first time since then that both they and in-state rival WSU are unranked at the same time.

UW Huskies knocked off by Stanford 23-13 for 2nd Pac-12 loss

Washington (4-2 overall, 1-2 Pac-12) dropped all the way from No. 15 to completely out of the AP poll after losing 23-13 on the road to Stanford on Saturday night. The Huskies are also out of this week’s Coaches’ Poll, falling from No. 16.

WSU (3-2, 0-2) remains out of the poll picture following a bye in Week 6 and two straight losses to UCLA and Utah. The Cougars made news earlier in the weekend when defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys resigned.

The Huskies’ loss to Stanford (3-3, 2-2) was their second this year to an unranked fellow Pac-12 North competitor. The first was to Cal (4-2, 1-2) at home in Week 2.

UW’s peak in the AP poll this year is at No. 13, which was its preseason ranking. The last time the Huskies did not make an AP Top 25 poll was in Week 10 last year following a 12-10 loss to Cal, which dropped them to 6-3 overall and again saw them fall completely out of the poll from No. 15. They rebounded with a 27-23 win over Stanford the next week and returned to the poll at No. 20, reaching as high as No. 9 before finishing the year ranked 13th in the country.

Before their one-week absence from the AP poll in 2018, you have to go all the way back to 2015, head coach Chris Petersen’s second season on Montlake, for the last time Washington was unranked. That was also the last time no team from the state of Washington was in the top 25, as WSU was ranked 10th last year when the Huskies had their one-week absence from the AP poll.

The Huskies will look to get on track in another tough road game next weekend when they face Pac-12 South leader Arizona (4-1, 2-0) in an 8 p.m. contest. The Cougars will also be in Arizona, taking on No. 18 Arizona State (4-1, 1-1) in a 12:30 p.m. Saturday game that will air on 710 ESPN Seattle.
