Running back Rashaad Penny will miss the Seahawks’ Week 3 game against the Saints after suffering a hamstring strain in practice Friday.
John Clayton’s keys to the game in Week 3
The second-year pro was listed among Seattle’s inactives Sunday afternoon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter originally reported Saturday evening that Penny would miss the game. Schefter clarified the injury isn’t considered serious, but that Seattle is being cautious with its 2018 first-round pick.
Penny is coming off one of his best games as a pro. He rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown last week in Pittsburgh.
Seattle still has its leading rusher Chris Carson. The team also has C.J. Prosise – who has managed to remain healthy throughout the start of the season – and rookie Travis Homer available to play in the backfield.
“Everybody’s very excited to see C.J. get some touches out here today,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said in his pregame interview on 710 ESPN Seattle.
Also inactive as wide receivers Gary Jennings and John Ursua (likely healthy scratches with the return of David Moore), cornerback Neiko Thorpe (hamstring), safety Tedric Thompson (hamstring), guard Ethan Pocic (neck), and defensive end L.J. Collier.
Collier, Seattle’s 2019 first-round pick who made his return from an ankle sprain last week, was also likely a healthy scratch with defensive end Ziggy Ansah set to make his season debut. Ansah, one of Seattle’s most high-profile free agent acquisitions, will see his first action with Seattle. The former Detroit Lion spent the offseason rehabbing a shoulder injury.
Notable actives
Cornerback Tre Flowers (ankle) will play after missing practice Friday. Wide receiver David Moore is active less than a month after suffering a break in his upper arm. Defensive tackle Poona Ford (calf) will also make a return after missing Week 2.
