Seahawks middle linebacker Bobby Wagner, wide receiver DK Metcalf, defensive end Rasheem Green, and tight end Ed Dickson were among several players who sat out Monday’s training camp practice.

With just three days remaining before Seattle’s preseason opener against the Denver Broncos, head coach Pete Carroll gave post-practice updates on who’s set to make a return soon, who may need surgery, and who could miss Thursday’s game.

While it’s worth noting that none of the injuries sound too severe, the most serious appears to be Dickson’s knee issue. Even then, Carroll called it “minor,” but he added the team is deciding whether or not the veteran will require surgery.

“It’s going to take us probably four or five weeks, maybe six weeks at the most,” Carroll said of Dickson’s potential recovery timeline. “It’s very minor but we’ve got to figure out exactly how to get this done and the timing of it and all.”

Seattle has already made two roster moves to add depth at tight end. The team Saturday signed Jackson Harris and Wes Saxton following injuries to Tyrone Swoopes and Justin Johnson (both Swoopes and Johnson were waived/injured). Veteran Nick Vannett and second-year TE Will Dissly remain healthy, though, and the latter had an impressive practice Monday. Actually, if there’s good injury-related news at the position, it’s that Dissly could be closer to making a return than would be expected less than one year following surgery to repair a ruptured patellar tendon.

“Diss had a great day today. He was all over the place and he’s making a bid for wanting to play (Thursday),” Carroll said. “So we’re watching, listening carefully, because he looks like he’s ready to go. He’s had excellent work.”

Carroll said Wagner, who played in Saturday’s scrimmage, had a “procedure” done on his lower body (presumably during the team’s off day Sunday). Carroll didn’t seem too concerned; the head coach said the procedure is something Wagner has done a couple times before, and they opted to do it now so as to give Wagner enough time to bounce back before the start of the regular season. For what it’s worth, Wagner hasn’t been ruled out for the preseason.

“Bobby had a little procedure done he’s going to take a little break here just to get right, a little thing that we do with him,” Carroll said. “It’s something he’s done regularly and we’re doing it now at this time of year.”

Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune reported Monday afternoon that Wagner’s procedure was a platelet-rich plasma therapy injection and that he is expected to be ready in time for Seattle’s regular season opener on Sept. 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Linebacker Cody Barton and fellow rookie Metcalf, both of whom sat out Saturday, were also held out Monday.

Barton is dealing with a groin strain and, based on Carroll’s comments after the team’s mock game, will remain out for a few days and potentially miss Thursday’s contest.

Metcalf sounds a bit closer to returning to the field. He’s dealing with an oblique injury suffered on the final play of practice Friday and was held out only as a precaution Monday.

Green was given a rest day for a lingering elbow injury. Linebacker Mychal Kendricks and defensive tackle Jarran Reed missed practice for non-injury related reasons; Kendricks was out for a business matter (it’s unclear whether that’s related to his sentencing for insider trading charges), and Reed was out for a family-related reason.
