T-Birds acquire Josh Uhrich from Saskatoon

The Thunderbirds announced Monday afternoon that they have acquired 19-year-old forward Josh Uhrich from the Saskatoon Blades in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2016 Bantam Draft.

Uhrich, who is from Rosetown, Sask. and will be leaving his hometown organization, has played in 27 games this season and has four goals and three assists to go with 24 penalty minutes. He should provide a physical presence in Seattle’s bottom six.

With the recent acquisition of Owen Seidel, it seems that the T-Birds have made it a priority to add more two-way grinders to fill out their forward depth. For his career, Uhrich has 310 penalty minutes in 225 games.

Seattle recently sent wing Wyatt Bear back to his midget team and announced the signing of Luke Ormsby, so there has been some movement as the team looks to complement their top two lines. It’s possible that the Thunderbirds could be without their top three centers for a decent period of time, as Mathew Barzal, Scott Eansor, and Alexander True are all candidates to join their respective countries in the upcoming World Junior tournament.
