Could the Seahawks bring back a familiar face for July’s training camp?

Seattle could have some interest in 32-year-old free agent defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin, according to the Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta. Rubin originally played for the Seahawks from 2015-16. He started every game over those two seasons and recorded three sacks and 45 tackles; however, he was ultimately released in September 2017.

Two years later, though, the Seahawks have found themselves in need of depth on the defensive line and Rubin could provide an affordable veteran option. But could he actually give the Seahawks the boost they need on defense?

“I’m not against it, but I don’t think he’s going to make much of an impact,” 710 ESPN Seattle’s Danny O’Neil said during Tuesday morning’s Blue 42 segment.

“I think that if Seattle brings him in it’ll be as a look-see and he probably won’t make the roster because that tends to be the trend of how things go. Their need is for a speed rusher on the outside. And if Ahtyba Rubin can beat out Jamie Meder, the defensive tackle that they acquired this offseason who has most recently been with Cleveland, he might make the team. I don’t see that as being something that’s going to shift the balance of power.”

As far as edge rushers go, O’Neil doesn’t think it’ll be ex-49ers vet Cassius Marsh who gets the start in Week 1 — but he’s also not expecting Ziggy Ansah to be healthy enough to play. O’Neil explains who he thinks will take up the reins in the audio clip embedded below:
