The Seahawks have two more days of non-padded, light contact practices before the team breaks for six weeks. When they return, they’ll suit up in full pads for an intensive month-long training camp, where a handful of first-year players will have a chance to make their biggest impression yet.

Clayton: Seahawks minicamp takeaways

Which two players will be most impacted when the pads come on? According to 710 ESPN Seattle’s Brock Huard, it’s rookie linebacker Cody Barton and rookie guard Phil Haynes.

“The two that I think can make the biggest impression in the last two months (of the offseason),” Huard said in his Blue 42 segment of Brock and Salk Wednesday. “I asked John Clayton that question earlier: Who has made the biggest first impression? Not, ‘how have they done?’, because Tyler Lockett’s blown up and Russell Wilson’s doing well. No, I’m talking about guys who were not in a Seahawks uniform and came in here, and from April 15 to now June 12, who has made the biggest impression? And I think it’s linebacker Cody Barton and guard Phil Haynes. And those two men will be the most impacted by the pads coming on in July and August.

“Phil Haynes took over for left guard Mike Iupati yesterday, who was out… now, can Phil do it when the pads actually come on and the force grows significantly? Right now it’s half speed, if that. But on the first day of training camp when the shells come on, it’s going to be a different game. And the same goes for Cody Barton. He’s looked phenomenal in T-shirts and a helmet. Phenomenal. But how do you play when the pads come on? I think the coaching staff is as anxious to evaluate those guys as they are anyone else, because I think they’ve made two of the strongest early impressions.”

Huard also talked about tight end Will Dissly and wide receiver Gary Jennings. Listen to the full segment in the audio clip embedded above.
