The Mariners have some work to do on the pitching front, both starters and relievers, and names are coming off the board. Interesting to see the numbers on Hisashi Iwakuma.
The Dodgers are reported to have given him a 3 year deal worth $45 million. That is the number that some analysts believed he would get at the onset of free agency. The Mariners were interested in a two year deal, might have added an option for a third, but clearly did not feel comfortable with three years guaranteed.
One option in Plan B has emerged.

Wade Miley is an interesting name. The 2012 Rookie of the Year runner up went 11 and 11 for the Red Sox last year and put up an ERA of 4.46 with a FIP of 3.81. He’s made 29 or more starts in each of his last four seasons and has 2 years remaining on his contract at $14.75 million and a $12 million club option in 2018. Of note, Miley was the 43rd pick in the 2008 draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks whose scouting director at the time was Mariners vice president of player personnel Tom Allison. That draft was overseen by Jerry Dipoto who was the Diamondbacks vice president of player personnel.
