Brock Huard’s Chalk Talk: Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse for one of Seahawks’ four red-zone TDs

The second of Russell Wilson’s two touchdown passes to Jermaine Kearse on Sunday was indicative of two related areas in which Seattle’s offense has improved: pass protection and red-zone efficiency.
Brock Huard broke down the play in this week’s “Chalk Talk” video. He pointed to Seattle’s blocking – which included an exceptional blitz pick-up by running back Thomas Rawls – as one of the keys.
Here’s a link to a video of the play.
That touchdown helped the Seahawks finish 4 for 4 in the red zone against Pittsburgh, bringing their conversion rate over the last three games to a league-best 80 percent (8 of 10).
That’s where Seattle’s pass-protection issues were showing up most earlier this season, when the Seahawks had the worst conversion rate in the NFL over the first eight games at 29.4 percent (5 for 17). They allowed a combined 31 sacks over that span but only six over the last three as improved pass protection has correlated with greater efficiency in the red zone.
