The Seahawks added two free-agent pass rushers Thursday, signing ex-49ers defensive end Cassius Marsh and ex-Browns defensive end/linebacker Nate Orchard.
Seahawks bring back DE Cassius Marsh
Fans will be familiar with Marsh, 26, who was originally drafted by the Seahawks in 2014 (more on his signing here). Meanwhile, this is Orchard’s first time signing with Seattle. Given that he’s a new Seahawk, here’s a quick primer on the former Browns pass rusher:
Orchard is a former second-round pick
The 26-year-old Orchard was originally drafted in the second round, 51st-overall, by the Cleveland Browns in 2015. In his two-year college career with the Utah Utes, Orchard appeared in 24 games and recorded 76 tackles and 21.5 sacks.
He has spent time with Cleveland, Buffalo, and Kansas City
Orchard finished his rookie year in Cleveland with 36 tackles, three sacks and one interception. His second year was cut short after three games by an ankle injury that landed him on the injured reserve. After a less productive third season (one start, 25 tackles) Orchard was released by the Browns.
Orchard spent time with both the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs last season, finishing the year with a combined four tackles in four appearances.
He was on the latest season of ‘Hard Knocks’
If Nate Orchard’s name rings a bell for some fans, it may be because they watched him battle for a spot on Cleveland’s roster last fall: Orchard was a featured player on the most recent season of HBO’s popular docuseries ‘Hard Knocks.’
