Seahawks sign kicker Sam Ficken to reserve/future contract

They’re just one week into the offseason, but the Seahawks aren’t wasting any time when it comes to personnel moves. Just three days after Seattle signed nine of its practice squad players to reserve/future contracts, the team added a tenth signing: free agent kicker Sam Ficken.
Where should the Seahawks focus for their first offseason move?
Ficken, 26, first signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Penn State in 2016. He was last with the Los Angeles Rams, though was waived in Oct. 2018. He has made three of six career field goals (50%) and 14 of 15 career extra-point attempts (94%).
It wouldn’t be out of the norm for Seattle to carry two kickers through training camp. In fact, the team made a similar move last year. The Seahawks opted not to re-sign kicker Blair Walsh, who had an uneven performance in his single season in Seattle, and instead signed free agent kicker Jason Myers to a reserve/future contract. In April, they signed former Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski, 40, to a one-year deal. Both kickers competed through the offseason and training camp before Myers was ultimately waived.
If Seattle moves on from Janikowski, who is set to become a free agent in March, they will have their third kicker in three years in 2019.
