The news broke Monday that three-time Pro Bowl running back Ray Rice has been cut by the Ravens and banned indefinitely by the NFL after video was released by TMZ of him hitting his then-fiancee in Feburary.
Rice had already been suspended for two games for the incident, before the video of the altercation was released.
This story has obviously created a firestorm of controversy, especially considering how much more lenient Rice’s initial punishment from the NFL and the Ravens was. Here are some reactions from 710 ESPN Seattle show hosts:
Ah, lying worse than DV RT @DanWetzel: Ravens have cut Ray Rice. Told one factor was his version of what happened didn’t match with video.

So, if more of these horrible scenes are caught on video, then justice can be served.

Ravens were late to do the right thing. But, at least the right thing was finally done. NFL commish blew it big time! #Ravens

What does it say that the @ravens had to actually SEE what happened? What changed?

It’s not that I think the NFL didn’t cover this up, I just don’t know why there was a NEED for a coverup. Rice isn’t exactly Peyton Manning

A lot of ire is also being sent the way of NFL commissioner Roger Goodell:
I really wonder how Goodell can survive this. Bungled from the start. He’s made owners a lot of money, but others could too.
— Mike Salk, 710 ESPN (@TheMikeSalk) September 8, 2014
I don’t believe in firing people for every offense. But hard to see acceptable explanations here for Goodell.
— Mike Salk, 710 ESPN (@TheMikeSalk) September 8, 2014
If Goodell saw the video, then he should be ashamed. If he didn’t see it, why no? Did he not want to see it?
— Mike Salk, 710 ESPN (@TheMikeSalk) September 8, 2014
And if Goodell didn’t want all the evidence, than why not? It suggests a league that would rather bury this issue than deal with it.

If the NFL truly has ex FBI/CIA types working for them (as @BrockESPN said today), then how could they not get this video before TMZ?
— Mike Salk, 710 ESPN (@TheMikeSalk) September 8, 2014
There probably needs to be a punishment for Goodell himself if he saw that video prior to the suspension.
