The Mariners will start their six-game homestand Friday without All-Star shortstop Jean Segura, who has been placed on the paternity list.
Players are allowed to be on the paternity list for up to three days.

To take Segura’s place on the active roster, the Mariners have selected veteran infielder Gordon Beckham from Triple-A Tacoma. They also had to make room for Beckham on the 40-man roster, so outfielder John Andreoli has been designated for assignment.
Segura, 28, made his second career All-Star team last month. He recently moved into the No. 3 spot in Seattle’s lineup and is hitting .314 with nine home runs, 27 doubles, two triples, 17 stolen bases, 56 RBIs, 78 runs scored and a .781 OPS this season.
Beckham, 30, is 7 for 31 (.200) in 13 games with the Mariners in 2018.
Andreoli, 28, went 1 for 5 (.200) in three games over three stints up with Seattle.
The Mariners (70-52) will open their homestand Friday with the first game in a three-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers (65-57) at 7:10 p.m. on 710 ESPN Seattle.
