The Mariners have signed veteran right-handed pitcher Kevin Correia to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, the team announced Monday.
Correia, a one-time All-Star, has pitched for five teams over his 12-year career. His best season was 2009, when he finished 12-11 with a 3.91 ERA and 142 strikeouts in a career-high 198 innings pitched. In 2014, he was 7-17 with a 5.44 ERA in 32 games (26 starts) for the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers.
He joins left-hander Joe Saunders as a veteran pitcher on a minor league contract in camp with the Mariners. While Saunders is competing for a bullpen role, Correia is aiming for a spot in the starting rotation, according to Greg Johns of MLB.com.
