The T-Birds will wrap up their pre season schedule this weekend with a home and home series with their friends from Everett. They play the Silvertips Friday at the ShoWare Center in Kent at 7:35 PM. Tickets for the game are only $12 with general admission seating, which means if you’ve always wanted to sit at center ice or against the glass here is your chance. Seatle then travels up I-5 to take on the Silvertips Saturday at the Comcast Center, face off at 7:05 pm.

Last weekend the T-Birds were in Kennewick to play two games and came away with a split.

They beat the Tri City Americans in an exciting shoot out 4-3 on Friday and then dropped a 6-3 decision to Portland on Saturday.

An encouraging trend has emerged early in the pre season for the Thunderbirds as they have twice fought back from deficits. In their first pre season game against Portland they fought back from a 2-0 and 3-2 deficit to tie and force overtime. Friday against Tri City they came out flat and found themselves down 3-0 early only to storm back and win in a shoot out. While it’s only two preseason games, that is a good sign of a team that might have some more maturity and confidence.

Alex Delnov made his Seattle debut this past weekend and scored a goal in his first game against the Americans.

In the shoot out on Friday Riley Sheen was used as the first shooter in the shoot out and scored. Watching him in practice the Thunderbirds may have a great shoot out weapon in Sheen. He has some creative, and some-what crazy, one on one and shoot out skills. Expect to see Steve Konowalchuk go to Sheen a lot this year in the shoot out. Getting that extra point in shoot outs can make the difference between the playoffs and the golf course.

All three of the back up goalies were in action over the weekend and it does not appear that we are any closer to calling a winner in the competition. Justin Myles played against Tri City and was perfect, although only faced six shots in thirty-plus minutes of action. Daniel Cotton stopped 16 of the 19 shots he saw against Portland while Danny Mumaugh stopped 13 of 16. This will be an interesting story to watch this weekend.

The Thunderbirds roster remains the same for this weekend games.
