The Mariners have added an additional outfielder to their roster a day after Mitch Haniger took a pitch off his wrist.

John Andreoli has been called up from Triple-A Tacoma ahead of Wednesday’s 7:05 p.m. game against Oakland on 710 ESPN Seattle, and he will make his major league debut, taking over in right field while Haniger gets the day off.
The Mariners, who had been using a three-man bench with an additional pitcher in the bullpen, optioned right-handed reliever Dan Altavilla to the Rainiers to make room on the active roster for Andreoli.
The 27-year-old Andreoli has hit .294 with three home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored for Tacoma. He joined Seattle as a minor league free agent last December after three years playing in the Chicago Cubs’ system, and was tied for the Pacific Coast League lead in stolen bases in 2017.
Altavilla, 25, has a 3.24 ERA, four holds, 19 strikeouts, 12 walks and a .161 average against in 15 2/3 innings this season with Seattle. He had a short stint on the 10-day disabled list earlier this month.
The Mariners are currently struggling with injuries to position players. Second baseman/center fielder Dee Gordon was placed on the DL Tuesday, and Haniger, Nelson Cruz and Jean Segura all dealing with minor issues. Seattle is also without Robinson Canó, who was suspended last week for 80 games due to a drug policy violation.
Cruz returns to the lineup Wednesday after two games off to nurse a sore elbow, and Segura is back at shortstop and leading off after taking a shot to his shoulder diving into home plate to score the go-ahead run in Tuesday’s 3-2 win.
