With the WHL trade deadline fast approaching, the Thunderbirds made a move Thursday afternoon to pick up 19-year-old forward Cory Millette from the Prince Albert Raiders. The T-Birds gave up a conditional sixth-round Bantam Draft pick in the trade.
Millette is 5 feet 10 and 194 pounds and split time between the Raiders and Saskatoon Blades this season. He has potted eight goals and 10 assists. He started his WHL career with the Red Deer Rebels before joining the Blades last year when he turned in his best full season with 17 markers. In his four-year career he has notched 92 points in 206 games.
Seattle general manager Russ Farwell had said in December that the T-Birds were looking to add some veteran depth up front to complement their young forward group. Coming into the season, Seattle was one of the youngest teams in the league and Millette should provide some experience. The conditional pick will either be a 2015 or 2016 pick. No details were provided as to what the conditions are.
As we move closer to the Jan. 10 trade deadline it will be interesting to see if Seattle makes any more moves. It would be surprising for the T-Birds to make any blockbuster-type deals, but stranger things have happened. We will have all the Seattle trade deadline activity covered for you here, so stay tuned.
