Tuesday Rewind: Another QB change in San Francisco
The San Francisco 49ers tumoltuous season may come to an end this Sunday against the Seahawks.
The 49ers – 4-8 on the season – must defeat the Seahawks this weekend in order to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. A loss would officially eliminate the 49ers from postseason contention, and possibly could lead to the demise of head coach Mike Singletary.
With their season on the line this Sunday, the 49ers have turned to Alex Smith (pictured) to start at quarterback in replacing former Heisman trophy winner Troy Smith. Alex began the season as the starter before suffering a shoulder injury in a loss to Carolina in Week 7. Although Troy led the 49ers to three wins in five games, his 52.4 completion percentage was not enough for him to keep his job.
ESPN NFC West blogger Mike Sando explained why the 49ers made the quarterback switch so late in the season, considering Alex was available to return from injury several weeks ago.
Mike Rice, gameday host for the Denver Broncos, explained why the organization fired head coach Josh McDaniels yesterday, and listed some of the candidates to become their next head coach.
“The Godfather,” Dwight Jaynes gave his take on the National Championship game between the Oregon Ducks and Auburn Tigers.
ESPN baseball insider Tim Kurkjian reported the latest from the MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando, where former Mariner pitcher Cliff Lee is a hot offseason commodity.
Bethlehem Shoals, NBA blogger for The Sporting News and Deadspin, gave his take on the ownership mix-up in New Orleans as the NBA has taken full control of the Hornets franchise.
