Mitch Haniger is hitting sixth and playing right field for the Mariners in the second game of their series with the White Sox at 2:10 p.m. on 710 ESPN Seattle, and he’ll have the chance to hit a home run in his fifth straight game.
Mariners Table Setter: Haniger turns up heat on already torrid start
Haniger homered once in each of the Mariners’ three games in Texas over the weekend, then left the yard Monday at Guaranteed Rate Field in the opener in Chicago, a 10-4 Seattle loss. He enters Tuesday tied for second in the majors in homers (eight) and RBIs (23), and ranks fourth in OPS (1.112).
At four straight games, Haniger is halfway to the Mariners record of home runs in eight consecutive games, which Ken Griffey Jr. did in 1994. That is tied for the MLB record along with Don Mattingly (1987, Yankees) and Dale Long (1956, Pirates).
Coverage of Tuesday’s Mariners-White Sox game starts with the pregame show at 1 p.m. on 710 ESPN Seattle.
