The Seattle Seawolves couldn’t have asked for a better day to start their run in professional rugby than Sunday. After days of sluggish Western Washington rain, the sun came out as strong as the players gave Seattle its first win against the San Diego Legion at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila.

“The turnout was incredible,” said Matt Pitman, PA announcer for the Seawolves. “Starfire was completely sold out, fans were there early all decked out in their brand new Seawolves gear. It was great to see so much support for professional rugby right out of the gates for the inaugural match.”
The Seawolves overcame the Legion with a 39-23 win.
“These are some of the best players in North America, playing at the highest level in the U.S.,” Pitman said. “I was very impressed with the quality of play, the precision, technical detail. And I can’t lie — seeing the hits and physical nature of the sport, played by players at that level, made it clear why there is such a passionate and loyal rugby community on the Pacific Northwest.”
The Seawolves will take on the Glendale Raptors of Colorado next Saturday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. at Starfire Stadium. View the rugby team’s schedule here. According to The Seattle Times, The Raptors just had a strong start of their own with a 41-26 win against the Austin Elite.
