6/8: National columnist calls out Ichiro
Jun 8, 2011, 10:04 AM
–Jon Paul Morosi wrote on FOXSports.com after the Mariners’ 5-1 loss to the White Sox last night that “the time has arrived for Ichiro to become something he hasn’t been often enough, despite his status as the face of the franchise. A leader.” Morosi proposes that Ichiro volunteer to hit third.
–Steve Kelley of The Seattle Times writes that Mike Carp, who was called up from Triple A Tacoma last night, should immediately assume the Mariners’ DH job.
–Jeff Sullivan of LookoutLanding.com looks at where Carp figures to see playing time. Sullivan: “The situation is a little murky, with Carp, Greg Halman and Carlos Peguero all sort of sharing left field. But I can’t imagine that Carp would be behind Peguero on the depth chart, and Peguero could very well be the guy who goes away whenever Dustin Ackley is promoted. Carp could also sneak his way into the occasional start at DH.”
–Dave Cameron writes in a brief post on USSMariner.com that Dustin Ackley has nothing left to prove in Triple A.
—Here’s my story on the Mariners’ second-round pick, SS Brad Miller of Clemson. It includes quotes from Jason Churchill of Prospect Insider/ESPN.com and Tom McNamara, the team’s director of amateur scouting.
–If you missed Brock & Salk’s “Answer the Question, Jerk!” with Jay Buhner yesterday, give it a listen.
–Mike Sando of ESPN.com writes about the endorsement Seahawks LB Aaron Curry gave for QB Matt Hasselbeck via Twitter.
