79th Annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year Results

710 ESPN Seattle was proud to sponsor the 79th annual MTR Western Sports Star of the Year, brought to you by the Seattle Sports Commission, on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014 from Seattle’s Benaroya Hall.
The annual awards ceremony is the Northwest’s premier celebration of Washington sports.
Here are the award winners from this year’s event:
– Story of the Year: Eastlake Little League, for their run to the U.S. Championship Game in the 2013 Little League World Series.
– Keith Jackson Award: Warren Miller, legendary skiing and snowboarding filmmaker
– Paul Allen Award: Emerald Downs president Ron Crockett, for his philanthropy and fundraising efforts for the new Husky Stadium
– Seattle Children’s Hospital Inspirational Award: Zach Lystedt, who suffered a life-changing concussion in 2006 at the age of 13. He and his family helped create the Lystedt Law to protect young athletes suspected of a concussion.
– Royal Brougham Lifetime Achievement Award: Former Washington State baseball coach Bobo Brayton.
– Female Sports Star of the Year: UW women’s volleyball star Krista Vansant, the first Husky to win national player of the year honors.
– Male Sports Star of the Year: Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who helped lead the Seahawks’ to their second Super Bowl appearance in 2013.
