MLB.com’s Greg Johns reports that the Mariners have tentatively reached one-year deals with pitchers Jason Vargas and Shawn Kelley, their two remaining arbitration-eligible players.
Update: The Mariners have announced the deals.
The agency that represents Vargas, CAA Sports, tweeted that his deal is worth $4.85 million. Vargas, 28, was 10-13 with a 4.25 ERA in 32 starts last season.
Kelley confirmed his deal via Twitter, writing, “Got my deal done, ready for baseball now”. The 27-year-old reliever allowed no runs in 10 appearances in 2011 after missing most of the season while recovering from partial Tommy John surgery.
Earlier Tuesday, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reported that the Mariners avoided arbitration with Brandon League by signing the reliever to a one-year, $5 million deal.
Tuesday at 11 a.m. was the deadline for teams to sign their arbitration-eligible players before contracts go to arbitration next month.
