New Seahawk’s Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley sat down with Brock and Salk at the VMAC today, and said this year’s Seahawk defense will be bringing some energy.
Broadcasting live from Seahawk’s training camp in Renton, Bradley told the guys that the Hawks D has been flying around the practice field.
“I think Jim is trying to get the tempo so fast (at practice) that when we go on Sundays and play our games that it feels like things happen in slow motion, and if you can do that you play fast as a unit.”
When asked what differences the 12th man can expect to see from his defense this year, Coach Bradley said the linebackers specifically will be impact players.
“I think they’re going to have an ability to be even more impact players, before where they would attack the line of scrimmage and maybe if the ball would be cut back on a certain run, they did their job and it was left to someone else to make the play. Now we’re asking them to not only play that gap, but have the ability to fall back and cap off, and I think they’re really buying into it, and I know Lofa really likes the scheme as far as that’s concerned because he feels like he’s going to have more opportunities to make plays, and then obviously you’re going to see them blitz a little more than maybe they have in the past.”
As for the rest of the defense, Bradley said the safeties are becoming leaders on the field, and that leadership is helping the D improve everyday. Bradley also singled out offseason acquisition Corey Redding as a guy who could have a big impact this season. Redding, a defensive end/tackle hybrid, drew comparisons to former NFL player Kevin Carter.
