Kicking Battle, Roster Spots and Daily Links!
by Mike Salk
Amazing, but the lead story today on the Seahawks might be the battle for the kicker spot. Brandon Coutu and Olindo Mare are in the middle of a close battle. Speaking of guys who use their feet, Jon Ryan, Brock’s favorite player, has the longest touchdown reception of any Seahawk.
Here is John Morgan’s best guess at what the roster will look like, looks like he has been impressed with ALL of the D-Linemen. Julius Jones and Edgerrin James need to get the running game in rhythm to setup the offense for plays like the 31 yard pass to Nate Burleson.
Ich. I am doing these links under protest. Seattle got shut out for the second straight game, the pitching had problems too as the final score was 10-0 Angels. Fortunately, Ichiro and Adrian Beltre will be back in the lineup tonight for the Mariners. Also, Carlos Triunfel is back in Double-A after breaking his Tibia on April 11th.
Ryan Rowland-Smith and Jarrod Washburn are almost the exact same pitcher, according to Dave Cameron. Not going to argue with the stats, but there are still differences and I think we all know that. Also, I like what both guys bring to the table.
Christian Caple says Jack Hannahan is making the transition to first base nicely. How hard is that transition exactly?
Dustin Ackley took batting practice at Safeco Field yesterday and did well despite some nerves.
Husky coach Steve Sarkisian finds himself in unfamiliar territory; as an underdog. The team depth chart was released yesterday, a surprise move has walk-on Greg Christine starting at left guard. Scott Woodward, UW athletic director, has strong ties to LSU but says he’ll be rooting for UW this weekend.
Despite a talented team, Eastern Washington won’t make the playoffs this year, thanks to Paul Wulff.
Ricky Rubio, the 5th player taken in the NBA draft, won’t be joining the Timberwolves.
–Doug Fister (1-1, 3.42 ERA) gave up 3 home runs to KC in his last start, he can’t do that again.
–Ervin Santana is 7-7 with a 5.94 ERA this season but has a 6-2 record on the road.
