Quick note as I’m running from the ballpark back to the station to host AllNight tonight for Jason Smith:
With three catchers up on the big league club, we don;t uite need a rotation like with the starting pitchers, but it’s close!
With that in mind, Adam Moore will make his major league debut tomorrow afternoon catching Brandon Morrow. The two built up some comfort with each other in Tacoma this year. And it should provide a good opportunity for Moore to get his feet wet while catching a guy he knows well. It could also be good for Morrow to have a familiar batterymate.
I watched Moore working closely today with manager (and former catcher) Don Wakamatsu. They were doing some catching/throwing drills after Moore took early batting practice, but before the team took its regular BP.
Everyone I’ve talked to has raved about the young catcher. They say he has a good head on his shoulders, can hit, can receive, is learning how to call a game, and he’s a natural leader. Basically, I hear he’s just a solid baseball player. Those are good qualities to have when you play the position considered to be the thinnest around the game.
Looking forward to watching tomorrow…
