In Wednesday’s Blue 88, Brock Huard said he thinks Derrick Brown is the most important recruit to sign with Washington on Wednesday.
Brown, a 6-foot-3, 239 pound quarterback from Winchester, Calif., is a three-star recruit according to Scout.com. He had verbally committed to Utah but changed his mind after attending a Husky practice in San Diego before the Holiday Bowl in December.
Here is what Brock had to say about Brown:
“When you look at the importance of that position – be it at the pro level, at the collegiate level, at the high school level as well – you better be good at that position. It sure improves your odds of winning.
“Getting Derrick Brown was essential. This was a down year. I think you talk to anybody in college football recruiting. This was not the year where you had Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, Jake Locker and everybody else. This was a year nationally with not a lot of top-tier talent… (He’s) a guy that (ESPN recruiting expert) Tom Luginbill really liked. Big, 6-3, 239, athletic, can run, a dual threat. He’s got to be refined in the passing game…
“But getting a quarterback in the upper-tier was a must. With only two scholarship quarterbacks in Keith Price and Nick Montana, you had to get a quarterback. So I think Derrick Brown may be the most important of the group.”
Brock also discussed the one player he first noticed in his recruiting class at Washington and explained why he thinks the Patriots are the team of the last decade. You can listen to the entire segment here.
