In Monday’s Blue 88, Brock Huard explained why he thinks the Seahawks might re-sign quarterback Matt Hasselbeck before the current collective bargaining agreement expires next week:
“My gut feeling is that as this Combine winds down … that the two sides should be able to put and get a number together. Is that definitive? Have I talked to Matt? Is that close? No. But my gut feeling would be before March 3 comes (there will be a deal). If nothing is worked out and if this season goes into full chaos mode as practices are lost and strength and conditioning are lose and uncertainty of free agency begins to overwhelm everybody, I think if you’re Pete Carroll and his staff you’re at least going to want your quarterback in the fold.
“So my gut would say between now and March 3, Hasselbeck would be signed.”
Hasselbeck has pointed to this week as a time when a deal could be finalized.
“Right around the Combine time, right after the Combine, that’s when stuff usually gets done, at least in my experience,” he told Brock & Salk earlier this month.
The NFL Scouting Combine begins Wednesday and ends on March 1.
Brock also discussed how the contract negotiations between the NFL and its players’ union appear to be going and shared his thoughts on the recent suicide of former NFL player Dave Duerson. You can listen to Blue 88 here.
