Blue 42: Kyle Orton is good, but not a good fit for Seahawks’ offense

Kyle Orton’s name has floated around as a potential option for the Seahawks, who only have one quarterback currently under contract for the 2011 season.
In Friday’s Blue 42, Brock Huard explained why Orton’s style doesn’t fit with the Seahawks and new offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell’s system.
Huard: “Darrell Bevell’s system that he is going to implement is going to be the quick passing game. It’s a system that’s built, to some extent, on having a mobile, at least athletic quarterback and that is what Kyle Orton is not.
“Think Ryan Mallett, not quite as big an arm, more accurate. I just think from a fit standpoint from what they want to do schematically, Kyle Orton is not the guy.”
Orton, 28, threw for over 3,600 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions for the Broncos last season. He’s under contract for another year, but his future in Denver is up in the air with a new coaching staff and second-year quarterback Tim Tebow also in the mix.
It’s still uncertain whether the Seahawks will re-sign Matt Hasselbeck, and after opting to not draft a quarterback last month, the only quarterback on their roster is Charlie Whitehurst. That has led to speculation of a possible trade for Orton or Philadelphia’s Kevin Kolb.
ESPN’s John Clayton listed Orton as an option for the Seahawks if they can’t re-sign Matt Hasselbeck and don’t trade for Kolb. Clayton thinks Orton could likely be acquired for a second-or third-round pick.
