Mike Zunino is doing his best to make sure he goes into the regular season on fire at the plate.
The power-hitting Mariners catcher put on quite the show Wednesday night in a Cactus League game against the Brewers, drilling three home runs and going 4 for 4 in Seattle’s 7-4 victory.
A clue revealed in who may start opening day for Mariners
The first of his homers was a clean shot to left-center. The second was what he told reporters after the game was his favorite of the trio, as he hit it to the opposite field, a good sign that he has his swing down. The third came off of a familiar face: Yovani Gallardo, who Zunino caught for the Mariners last season and who is likely going to pitch out of the bullpen in his return to Milwaukee this year.
Zunino is now tied with Daniel Vogelbach for the team lead in homers this spring with five, and he raised his averages to .389 (batting), .463 (on-base) and .833 (slugging) in Cactus League play with his big night.
Everything going in the right direction for Mike Zunino after strong 2017
