A terrible sight in Thursday’s 1-0 win over the Red Sox when, in the fourth inning, a throw to first base by Boston starter Franklin Morales hit Franklin Gutierrez on the side of the head.
Gutierrez, just two weeks after coming off the DL and beginning his season, stayed down on the ground for a few minutes as trainers attended to him. He got up with help and needed assistance off the field.
After the game Eric Wedge said Gutierrez had a mild concussion and would be re-evaluated Friday. While it appeared initially that the ball hit him on the side of the face it actually hit him behind the ear.
If necessary, there is a seven-day concussion disabled list that Gutierrez can be placed on.
