Former Seahawks offensive line coach Mike Solari has returned to Seattle in the same position, so 710 ESPN Seattle’s Gee Scott talked to one of his former players, Rob Sims, to get an idea of what Solari will bring to Pete Carroll’s staff.
Seahawks officially announce additions to coaching staff
It’s pretty clear based on the interview that Sims, who started 114 of 125 games over his nine NFL seasons, is a big fan of Solari and optimistic that he can help turn the Seahawks’ run game around.
“One thing about Solari is that he won’t compromise no matter who you are as far as playing ability and playing style,” said Sims, whose Seahawks tenure lasted from 2006-09, the final two seasons of which Solari coached the offensive line. “He’ll find the very best out of that room to get his system done and to get that running game going. … He’s a great coach and hopefully those guys believe in his system Day 1 because as soon as they do that you’ll have a contender, you’ll have a good running game.”
Sims expects that the Seahawks’ line will see a quick improvement under Solari, noting his attention to technique and ability to get five linemen on the same page.
“Teaching technique the way Mike Solari does … is absolutely what needs to be done to have a successful offensive line,” Sims said. “You Seahawks fans will see that early on. The preseason games, you’ll see an immediate difference.”
