With the suspensions for those involved in the Biogenesis investigations expected to be handed out Monday morning, here are a couple of notes on how this will most likely affect Mariners catcher Jesus Montero, who is reportly one of the players who will be suspended.
All indications are he will not appeal a suspension. He can serve his suspension while in the minor leagues and despite the fact that the Rainiers have just 28 games remaining, a source tells me Montero’s suspension is expected to be completed before the start of next season.
While suspended, Montero can work out with one of the organization’s affiliates but he cannot be in uniform or in the dugout during games. The Mariners will also gain a spot on the 40-man roster while he is out.
Montero was sent to Triple-A Tacoma May 22 and shortly after suffered a knee injury. He returned to game action July 18 and has gone 11 for 45 since then.
