Jimmy Graham has four catches so far this season, a couple of drops and now an injured ankle.
He’s also the subject of what might be the single biggest question regarding Seattle’s offense.
Namely, what in the world is going on?
Clayton’s Takeaways: Maybe it’s time Seahawks let Jimmy Graham regroup
“Yeah, that’s not what we would expect to have happen,” coach Pete Carroll said after Sunday’s game. “He had some good shots and chances today, and they got him. Hit him really good on one seam route and all that. But it will be fine. I’m not worried about it at all.”
That’s good, coach. But it’s probably not going to keep everyone else from fixating on the fact that he had a single catch for 2 yards on Sunday and suffered an ankle injury that will make him a question mark this week.
“We’ve got to figure out what that means,” Carroll said Monday of Graham’s injury. “We don’t know yet. So I can’t tell you any more. It’s too soon.”
The injury did affect Graham in Sunday’s game though his snap count remained among the highest among Seattle’s receivers and running backs.
The bigger question is why this season has been a step backward for Graham, who caught 62 passes for 923 yards last season, a record for Seattle tight ends.
As to the question of why Graham hasn’t been more involved, Carroll wasn’t willing to delve very deep into that issue.
“He hasn’t had many opportunities to do much, so far,” Carroll said.
