Mariners manager Scott Servais gave a rather lengthy injury report Monday afternoon before Seattle’s series opener against the Houston Astros.

Most of the news was not particularly good.

Drayer: Mariners could make rotation change soon

Here’s a breakdown at what Servais shared.

• Jarrod Dyson missed his second straight game Monday after coming out of Saturday’s game with groin tightness.

“It’s something he is going to have to manage the rest of the season,” said Servais. “It’s (similar) to what Robbie (Cano) went through a few years ago. You can manage it and play through it. You’re probably not 100 percent. It’s kind of each individual’s pain tolerance, threshold. We will see.”

With all that said, Dyson is still expected to return in the next few days. He will be seen again by team doctors Tuesday.

• David Phelps has been shut down and transferred to the 60-day DL with a right elbow impingement. Servais indicated he will most likely need surgery to clean up the elbow but it is not expected to be serious.

• Tony Zych, who is on the DL with a flexor bundle strain, threw a bullpen over the weekend but was still feeling tightness in his forearm. He will need to let the area quiet before throwing again.

• Felix Hernandez threw his second bullpen since going on the DL with shoulder bursitis and all went well. He is on track to throw a sim game Friday. James Paxton is scheduled to throw his second bullpen since injury on Tuesday.

Notes

• The Mariners claimed two players off waivers from the Cubs, outfielder Jacob Hanneman and right-handed pitcher Seth Frankoff. Both were placed on the 40-man roster, taking the spots of Phelps and Zac Curtis, who was DFA’d. Hanneman will join the active roster immediately.

• A reminder, volunteers from the American Red Cross will be at Safeco Field on Wednesday to collect donations to help the people of Southeast Texas and Louisiana who have been devastated by the effects of Hurricane Harvey.
