A story caught my eye for a short look back feature in the pregame show Monday in Houston. It was 27 years ago on July 17 that a marquee matchup fully lived up to its billing: Bo Jackson with the Kansas City Royals on one side, Deion Sanders and the New York Yankees on the other.
It was the last time they would meet on a baseball field, and the game was epic. A story of interest in itself, but as I read further, I found there was a Mariners connection in that game as current pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. played a key role, as well.

In the audio linked below, Stottlemyre shares why that game was memorable for him – and there are a number of reasons. Stottlemyre tells the story of what it was like to play alongside one of the greatest athletes to play the game, what Jackson was like behind the scenes, and addressed whether he has forgiven Deion for breaking an unwritten rule.
It was a fun conversation complete with audio highlights, so if you missed it on the pregame show, I wanted to give you a chance to enjoy.
