Notes

• In other coaching news, according to numerous reports this weekend the Yankees are about to announce their new hitting coach and assistant hitting coach. Interestingly enough, both have held the position with the Mariners. Jeff Pentland will serve as hitting coach, the position he held with the Mariners from 2005-2008 and Alan Cockrell, the Mariners hitting coach from 2009 to midway through 2010, will assist him.

• From the preseason projections department, ESPN’s Buster Olney has come out with his top 10 pitching staffs in 2015 (Insider subscription required) and he has the Mariners fielding the top rotation in the American League and fourth overall. Olney points to James Paxton as the difference maker behind Felix and Hisashi Iwakuma, and believes new addition J.A. Happ “could be well-served by the Safeco dimensions as Chris Young was last year.” The Mariners are the only AL West team on Olney’s top ten list.

• Fernando Rodney announced on Twitter this weekend that he has been added to the FanFest lineup. I will do my best to get him on the FanFest Hot Stove League show.
