A day after dealing with a tough lefty, Kyle Seager will get a break against another one.
The Mariners’ usual third baseman will get a rest in Wednesday’s 7:10 series finale against the Royals on 710 ESPN Seattle. Seager went 0 for 4 Tuesday against Kansas City, which started southpaw Danny Duffy. Jason Vargas, a former Mariner and candidate to start the All-Star Game next week for the American League, is on the mound Wednesday for the Royals.

Taylor Motter gets the start at third in Seager’s place.
“Could show up in there later in the game, of course, if we needed him,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said of Seager, who is hitting .251 with 10 home runs and 45 RBIs this season. “I think a mental, physical day (off) is probably a good thing for him right now.”
The Mariners have two of their left-handed bats back in the lineup after not starting Tuesday in Ben Gamel, who will play left field and hit fifth, and Jarrod Dyson, who will be in center and hitting eighth.
Seattle will start its own talented left-handed pitcher in Ariel Miranda.
