PEORIA, Ariz. – Here come your Mariners! No, not those Mariners, the ones that you see above, but there will be a Mariners team taking the field against the Padres in the annual charity game Wednesday at 12:05.
Lineup!
James Jones, CF
Chris Taylor, SS
D.J. Peterson, DH
Jesus Montero, 1B
Stefen Romero, LF
Carlos Rivero, 3B
Julio Morban, RF
John Hicks, C
Ketel Marte, 2B
Taijuan Walker, SP
Not the big names but plenty to watch. How do those who spent time on the team last year look? Hopefully we get to see a few at-bats from D.J. Peterson. How does losing 40 pounds look in action for Jesus Montero? He could be faster! Let’s not get carried away. It should be fun.
The game can be heard live on 710 ESPN Seattle, coverage beginning at 11:55. We will be broadcasting all 30 games, most live but some tape delayed. The schedule can be found here.
As for the video above, I just thought it was kind of fun. I lingered on the main field a little longer on Tuesday because with games starting Wednesday we won’t get to spend much time on the practice field. The days are more rushed with afternoon games and you don’t see as many drills. The pace picks up and at some point game faces will be on as the season approaches. The light back-field moments will be fewer and fewer.
Tuesday’s final work day ended with the group that was on the main field running a couple of baserunning drills. The fun thing was, the group that was on the main field looked a lot like the team we will see April 6 in Seattle. The drill was to run from second with third-base coach Rich Donnelly holding some up and waving others in. I thought it would be fun to catch ’em all as they rounded third so as I stated at the top of the post, here come your Mariners! Or something very close to it.
