SEATTLE MARINERS

Lineups: Ben Gamel takes turn batting 2nd for Mariners

May 28, 2017, 9:03 AM | Updated: 10:16 am

The Mariners continue to fiddle with their batting order, moving right fielder Ben Gamel to the No. 2 hole in front of Robinson Cano as the team tries to avoid a sweep Sunday against the Red Sox.

The Mariners were blanked by Boston for the second straight game Saturday after the team bumped first baseman Danny Valencia to the second spot. Outfielder Guillermo Heredia batted second for Game 1.

The M’s also announced another move, optioning Saturday’s starter Rob Whalen to Triple-A Tacoma and bringing up righty Ryne Harper. Harper, who was acquired by the Mariners as the Player to Be Named later from the Braves in December of 2015, has a chance to make his Major League debut.

Harper is 2-0 with three saves and a 1.89 ERA, with 24 strikeouts and nine walks in 15 relief appearances with the Rainiers this season. Whalen was charged with the loss in his Mariners debut Saturday, after allowing five earned runs over 5.1 innings.

You can hear first pitch on 710 ESPN Seattle at 10:35 a.m.
