Richard Sherman to Gee Scott on possible trade from Seahawks: ‘I understand it’s a business’

Mar 30, 2017, 8:41 AM | Updated: 10:34 am

I spoke with Richard Sherman this morning about the comments from Seahawks general manager John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll on the trade rumors involving the three-time All-Pro cornerback.

Sherman’s statement: “I wouldn’t want to leave this city and my guys, but I understand it’s a business and organizational philosophies change.”

O’Neil: By saying they’ll listen to interest, Seahawks have put Sherman on notice

The questions of Sherman’s relationship with the Seahawks began after a sideline incident with defensive teammates and coordinator Kris Richard in an October win over Atlanta. Then, during a win over the Rams in December, Sherman confronted Carroll and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

The trade speculation originated with comments from former NFL front-office executive Michael Lombard in a podcast on The Ringer. He said he believes Seattle would trade Sherman for the right deal.

Yesterday, Carroll told media members at the owners’ meetings that the Seahawks have received calls from other teams interested in acquiring Sherman and had talked about the possibility but that he did not expect a deal to get done.

I spoke with one of Sherman’s teammates, who said that “unless [the Seahawks] want this run to be over with, you wouldn’t entertain the thought of trading Sherman.”
