Thursday’s Sounders experience was more fun to broadcast than any I’ve done in a long time. The day began for me in the booth at 4 for a 6:30 kickoff. I didn’t make it to the march because I didn’t want to miss the developments at Qwest field. I watched the folks practicing the pregame ceremony. Watched as fans began to fill the stadium. Watched the players slowly start to drift onto the field. And pretty soon Sounders colors appeared everywhere as the fans came walking in at a brisk excited pace. I walked around the place in the corridors, kiosks and food stands. Man, these folks were stoked. I walked out onto the sidelines of the pitch and did a 360 taking in all the faces. The Brougham End they called it. The south endzone fans where the band was playing behind the net. The sounders were rocketing balls at backup keep Ben Dragavon. A Sounder a year ago he’s from Monroe. I met his dad after the game. He’s coached soccer in Snohomish County for years. Dragavon is on because back up Chris Eylander is hurt. What must Dragavon be thinking at this moment an hour and a half before kickoff. It’s already electric at this moment. More on the game later and the build up to next Saturday’s game.

A couple of college hoops notes. Lorenzo Romar staying the in same hotel as Mark Few this weekend says the Dog on Dog match up might be on like Donkey Kong again. Well, I paraphrase. Romar told AP in Portland that at some point the series will continue with Gonzaga. He added that he didn’t have any information that would lead him to believe it was imminent. Come on, for cryin out loud!!!! Get it done fellas. The deal broke off in 07 after 43 all time meetings and 10 straight.

Few has been fending off the inquisition about his thoughts on a job that isn’t open. Yet. If Ernie Kent is done at Oregon then Few would have to be at the top of the Duck’s list. Few says he is Gonzaga’s coach. The Zags meet WKU after the Huskies play Purdue at the Rose Garden today. Should they win they will both go away from one another. The Zags to Memphis and either NC or LSU and UW to Arizona to meet UCon or TXAM. The two dogs could meet in the Final Four in Detroit.
