Tim McCarver joined Kevin Calabro on Friday. Steroids was a hot topic of conversation as suspected juicers make their way to Hall of Fame contention.
Over the past five years, steroids has cast a dark cloud over baseball that the game might never be able to overcome. Countless careers and records are considered illegitimate, and no player has been above questioning. McCarver noted that it isn’t an easy decision whether or not to admit players like Bonds and McGwire. Tim didn’t say that they should be allowed in the Hall of Fame, but he didn’t oppose the idea either. He said that “Writers should take into consideration that this is a different era.”
Kevin also asked McCarver whether or not he believed Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. He was quick to shut down that idea all together saying, “I don’t think he deserves another chance.”
McCarver told Kevin that people need to look beyond steroids because there are so many good things about the game of baseball. He said that “The game is in good shape as I see it.”
